What is the difference between a scheduling agreement and a sales contract?

Sales contracts are agreement based on agreed quantity or value with specific customer while scheduling agreements are agreements based on schedule lines which have specific delivery dates. Sales order or release orders with independent delivery dates can be created with reference to contracts, while delivery due list carry delivery dates from a scheduling agreement.
