How does SAP FI interact with the SAP CO module?

SAP FI integrates with SAP CO to such an extent that their integration is not noticeable. The integration between both modules stems from the linking of CO organizational structure elements like controlling areas, cost centers, profit centers, cost center groups, cost element groups and profit centre groups to FI elements like company, company code, business area and others.
