How do internal orders and cost centers differ?

Overview

Internal orders and cost centers are both cost objects in SAP controlling. However, they differ in the mode of usage. While cost centers are used for posting expenses based on the organizational structure, internal orders are temporary cost elements for collecting certain expenses which can then be settled to a broad cost element such as a cost element.
