Workflow '&': Workflow definition does not exist

What causes this issue?

The workflow &V1& was to be started. However, the version required
cannot be found in the database:
Workflow task no. &V2&
Workflow definition no. &V3&, version &V4&.

System Response

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

How to fix this error?

Check and correct, if necessary, the entries specified above. Then
re-start the workflow.
