What causes this issue?

Characteristics are required for selection. The system could not
determine any selection characteristics, either from the selection
profile or from other entries.

How to fix this error?

Choose a class that contains characteristics. To use the selection by
characteristics without user dialog, ensure that the characteristics
are entered in the selection profile.
