Cannot use conf. class &1, class type &2 for generic article creation

What causes this issue?

You want to create a generic article or assign a configuration class to
a material group; however, the system cannot create the generic article
for one of the following reasons:
A characteristics profile with the same name as configuration class &V1&
exists, but the variant-creating characteristics used in the
characteristics profile and the configuration class are different.
The material group and the configuration class have the same name but
different variant-creating characteristics.

System Response

The system cannot create the generic article based on the given
configuration class and characteristics profile if:
The configuration class and characteristics profile have different names
and different variant-creating characteristics.
The given configuration class and a material group have the same name
but different variant-creating characteristics.
The system also cannot assign a configuration class to a material group
if:
A characteristics profile exists with the same name as the configuration
class but different characteristics.
The configuration class and the material group have the same name but
different characteristics.

How to fix this error?

If there is a characteristics profile with the same name as the
configuration class, try to delete the characteristics profile or use a
different configuration class.

Procedure for System Administrators

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
